The BQ2000SN-B5TR is a switch mode programmable multi chemistry battery charger in 8 pin SOIC package. This monolithic IC is used for fast charge management of nickel cadmium (NiCd), nickel metal hydride (NiMH) or lithium-ion (Li-ion) batteries in single or multi chemistry applications. The BQ2000 chooses proper battery chemistry (either nickel or lithium) and proceeds with optimal charging and termination algorithms. This process eliminates undesirable, undercharged or overcharged conditions. It allows accurate and safe termination of fast charge. The device inhibits fast charge until battery voltage and temperature are within user defined limits. The integrated high speed comparator allows the BQ2000 to be basis for a complete high efficiency battery charger circuit for both nickel based and lithium based chemistries. Fast charge termination is performed by peak voltage (PVD) (NiCd and NiMH), minimum current (Li-ion), maximum temperature and charge time.
