Product Overview
SFH 5721 is a chip LED digital ambient light sensor. It combines an array of photodiodes and wide dynamic range readout channels to enable ambient light and infrared sensing. In the figure below user can see a simplified block diagram of the digital light sensor IC. The sensor consists of photopic, infrared and dark channel integrated in one single chip. Three integrated ADCs convert the photodiode signal into a digital output which can be accessed by an external microcontroller through I²C. Photopic filter coating deposited on broadband photodiode provides near V lambda response. IR filter coating covering the broadband photodiode provides a response to an IR light. Signal of the dark photodiode is subtracted from the illumined photodiodes and is used for dark current compensation. Application includes 3D sensing, ambient light sensors, backlighting (Smartphone, Tablet), gesture recognition, industry monitors (Backlighting), remote control, proximity, ambient light sensing.

- Operating ambient temperature range from -40°C to 85°C
